Ugh, laundry is getting really stupid. It took me 3 days just to get my clothes washed, dried (that's not entirely true), and brought back to my room. It's taken me another 3 days just to get around to folding it. By the time I fold all the clean laundry in the hamper, it gets half-filled again with my dirty laundry over the days it took me just to get my laundry done. Getting laundry dried is really stupid. Honestly, I paid a dollar to get my clothes DRY, not DAMP and MOIST and SMELLING FUNNY. It's annoying in the morning, pulling on damp clothes, so gross. Folding laundry is kinda funny. A good sign that you don't have enough pants is when you're folding laundry, all you're pulling out of the hamper are underpants, socks, and t-shirts. I need to buy some pants. Maybe somebody with a car in Waterloo might drive me somewhere to go shopping *cough*. The worst part is folding socks. When I fold socks, I always somehow end up with 4 different socks, wondering where I went wrong. Today I had 6. Either something strange is going on with my laundry or I just suck at folding socks.

This weekend just hasn't been my weekend for steaks. Yesterday when we went to Wilf's, they screwed up my steak order by bringing me the wrong meal. I ordered the steak, and the waited even specifically asked if I meant the steak sandwich or the steak, and they STILL brought me the steak sandwich! Smooth one Wilfs. Today at Mel's Diner, I ordered the steak and eggs (which by the way is one of the best food combinations in the world, up there with eggs and instant noodles), and so I ordered a medium-rare. And what do I get? CHARRED! Like, really, burnt on the outside, and of course, cooked all the way through on the inside. So both times I had to send the steak back, making me wait for them to cook a whole new steak. Sigh.

I won 8 dollars playing poker today. My net earnings from poker are $19 now. Whee...

If you don't already know already, guess what I'm making using cardboard, yarn, tape, and scissors.

Woot, Sean's finally here!! Haven't seen him in soooooo long! Last night was fun. A bunch of us went to Wilf's, then we came back to res to play poker, xbox, and then me and Sean started to glowstring a bit. It's so nice to catch up and all, finally!

The past week has been absolutely hellish in terms of work, but I managed to bull through it all!!! I'd like to thank Tim Hortin's coffee and everybody up at 4am that was there to support me every night =D. I've had some ups and downs all week, it's been a lil weird. But now I'm soooo happy!

Just as expected, I made a killing off ATI! Actually, it's not that I made a huge profit from it, but it earned me enough so that I don't have to worry about dropping too far in the stock market competition, so it's good stuff =D

Mmmm...lots of things to do this week...well, it's not too bad I guess. I should really start on the paper for business that is probably worth like 10%. Funny how that doesn't seem like a lot anymore. Whatever, I'll probably be working on it at 4am tomorrow, again. I'm such a slacker! Ah well.

So I went to the bookstore today to get a quote for the stitching on the floor sweaters. 30 bucks per sweater! WTF, the bookstore is SUCH a fucking ripoff, LMAO! The sweaters cost $20, so I'm basically going to be paying MORE for the stitching on the sweater than I am for the sweater itself. This might be very interesting.

On another note, holy shit my essay is terrible! It just sounds like me ranting about how my parents suck at using the Internet! It's a good thing Irene told me to put a thesis, because then my essay would totally make absolutely no sense whatsoever. Wooooow...I hope Lo does a super awesome job of editing!

I started scratching a bingo ticket at like 3:30am. The sign of a real good ticket...finally scratching a box in the 4th set after going thru 14 numbers...*sigh, POS!!!

It feels so different crying over somebody else's issues.

One of my friends isn't doing so hot in his courses, so to help him study more I told him to stop playing computer games for a week. I'm going to do it too to support him a bit; I could use the study time also. So...no Gunbound and WC3 for a week! It's not that hard, I've done it before. I might actually get something done too =)

On a different note, the Raptors totally kicked some ass today! They were down 19 points going into the 4th quarter, and it looked like it would be a sure loss. BUT, the Raptors really turned it on and came back to win by 5 points!!! That was a pretty crazy last quarter as they totally steam rolled the Spurs, breaking their 7-game winning streak. Yeah, take that Duncan!

Do you know what pisses me off? Integrating the LOOOOOOOONG way. aka Integration by substition.

So now, here's my tutorial on a new integration rule they don't teach in class (not thoroughly at least).

Integration by Inspection

When you look at an integral and it seems too ugly for you to work with, STOP! Don't substitute! Let's do this the more straight forward way that doesn't eat up your time!

Common Sense Theorem (CST): If the question can be done in a faster and more straight forward method, then by CST we would USE this method because it's not as stupid and confusing!!!

Proof by example: Let's say we have the indefinite integral of [x/(x^2 + 1)] dx

or a little more clearly... int [x / (x^2 + 1)] dx

(okay, so it's not much more clear, I blame html)

Anyways, if we integrate by substitution, we would probably say something like...

u = x^2 + 1
du = 2 dx

And change the whole equation to...

(1/2) int [du/u]

At this point, you're sitting there at your exam thinking, "Wait, how did I get that? Meh *shrugs*". Instead of changing the equation that doesn't quite resemble the original, let's just work with the original!

So we see..

int [x / (x^2 + 1)] dx

What's the first thing to target? The denominator, or rather, the things that can be singled out in brackets typically at least. What do we do with it? In order to have the derivative come out with 1 / (x^2 + 1), we probably have to have something along the lines of ln (x^2 + 1).

So let's write that down first.

ln (x^2 + 1)

Good! Now, what's the derivative of ln (x^2 + 1) ?

d/dx [ ln (x^2 + 1) = 2x / (x^2 + 1)

Hey, that looks really close to the original integrand: x / (x^2 + 1) !!! Except, we're off by a factor of 1/2. When it's just a matter of being off by a constant coefficient, just throw it in! So in this case, we'd have to multiply our answer by 1/2 since the 1/2 will automatically carry over when you integrate.

Now...

(1/2) ln(x^2 +1)

When you differentiate it, just for checking purposes, you get...

(1/2) (1 / (x^2 + 1)) (2x) = x / (x^2 + 1) !!!

See? By not wasting our time substituting, we still got the answer.

However, this doesn't always work for all integrals. It should work for all integrals requiring substitution though.

If we had something like...

int [1 / (x^2 + 1)] dx

First thought...

ln (x^2 + 1)

And you will soon see that it won't work out. In fact, this can't be done by substition either. This is another example of integration by inspection just because we could recall that...

d/dx arctan x = 1 / (x^2 + 1)

Therefore...

int [1 / (x^2 + 1)] dx = arctan x

You don't have to know that. That's a tricky one.
